Front Porch Innovation Center Unveils New Website

CAST | July 19, 2016

The Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing (FPCIW) recently launched a new website highlighting “what imagination can do with technology to empower people to live well.”

Front Porch, a LeadingAge Member and CAST Patron in Glendale, CA, established FPCIW 2 years ago. Since then, the center has worked with 100 strategic partners, according to Long-Term Living magazine. FPCIW serves as an incubator testbed for new technology, and works with technology vendors to extend the independence of older adults, according to the website.

CAST Commissioner Kari Olson serves as president of FPCIW and chief innovation and technology officer at Front Porch.

Website Resources

The new FPCIW website features a variety of resources, including videos, photos, tools, and reports. It also includes a collection of case studies describing technology solutions that Front Porch and its residents have tested in collaboration with FPCIW partners.

Among the partners featured on the website are:

  • CAST Supporter It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L). Sunny View Retirement Community, a Front Porch community in Cupertino, CA, launched iN2L’s technology solution as part of an FPCIW research study. Residents used a touch screen computer to access engaging, entertaining, educational, spiritual, and personalized content that was appropriate to their level of cognitive, physical, and technical ability. The pilot study found that the iN2L program increased group interactions among residents, improved family relationships, and was an effective tool for resident engagement.
  • LeadingAge: The LeadingAge Innovations Fund supported FPCIW’s efforts to demonstrate the effectiveness of video conferencing and telehealth as a strategy to address the mental health needs of underserved seniors. The project targeted 31 residents of 2 senior affordable housing communities, and members of a senior center in the greater Los Angeles area.
