CAST members announce involvement in COVID-19 research and a new partnership.

PointClickCare to Help Launch COVID-19 Research Database

PointClickCare, a leading cloud-based software platform for the senior care market, announced in a press release that it would be joining the coalition of leading healthcare companies that have launched the COVID-19 Research Database. PointClickCare is a LeadingAge Gold Partner with CAST Focus.
The database is a secure repository of HIPAA-compliant, de-identified and limited patient-level data sets made available pro bono to public health and policy researchers to extract insights to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic. In joining the database, PointClickCare will mitigate an important gap in researchers’ understanding of COVID-19: specifically, how the disease impacts patients who are receiving care in post-acute care settings.
The database is a cross-industry collaboration made up of research groups and various leading healthcare corporations all focused on solving questions related to COVID-19, such as evaluations of drug effectiveness utilizing de-identified electronic health record and claims data, identifying which demographic factors and pre-existing conditions are most closely correlated with ventilator support or excess mortality, and measuring the public health impact of quarantine measures put in place in different geographies.
Senior care insights will be made possible by Lighthouse, PointClickCare’s initiative aimed at providing healthcare organizations, government agencies and life sciences companies with de-identified data from consenting providers regarding older adults.

SafelyYou Partners with HumanGood to Pilot Real-Time Fall Detection Technology

SafelyYou has announced that HumanGood, a LeadingAge CAST Patron and the sixth largest nonprofit senior living provider in the country, is piloting its real-time fall detection technology in three of its Life Plan Communities. The Terraces of Los Gatos in Los Gatos, CA; Regents Point in Irvine, CA; and Las Ventanas in Las Vegas, NV.
The goals for HumanGood's pilot program focus on reducing response time as well as time spent on the ground, minimizing unnecessary ER visits and adhering to fall protocol compliance.
SafelyYou's technology detects a fall by analyzing the video feed from cameras placed in a resident's apartment, stores video only when a fall is detected and sends alerts to the care team when a fall occurs. Video of the fall is available immediately to the care team through a secure web platform, which also can be used to support conversations with the family as well as Emergency Medical Services about the need for an ER visit.
