Letter to the White House, CDC, and CMS on Easing Visitation

Yesterday, LeadingAge submitted a letter to the White House, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requesting easing of nursing home visitation guidance—with responsible conditions and precautions. With a successful vaccination program underway, most nursing home residents are fully or nearly fully vaccinated. It’s time for policy to catch up. The letter requests a series of policy changes designed to lower barriers to visitation and reduce the isolation that residents have dealt with for more than a year, including the preconditions and additional support needed to proceed in a safe, smart fashion. Read the press release now.

Essential Caregivers Report on Programs

LeadingAge believes strongly that essential caregivers play a critical role in helping nursing home residents feel less socially isolated and more connected, particularly as we approach almost one year of visitation restrictions. Today, we released a paper about the impact of essential caregiver programs across the country. Read more about how we believe that essential caregiver programs can have a positive impact on the health and wellness of nursing home residents.

SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, March 4, 7:00-8:30 p.m. ET

LeadingAge, in partnership with the Black Coalition Against COVID (BCAC), is sponsoring a national town hall with the aging services community to address concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly among direct care workers. We want to hear from you, your staff, and thousands of others from around the country.

The agenda will feature senior leadership from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a variety of nationally recognized experts. This town hall is open to care providers from all levels and backgrounds. We hope your staff will join the conversation and we have a few suggestions for encouraging participation:

  • Plan a watch party at your community so available staff can participate together
  • Create a “watch-at-home” gift bag with snacks and information about the vaccine for staff who can’t attend in-person
  • Schedule a follow-up discussion opportunity the day following the town hall to address any unanswered questions or concerns

This national town hall will be broadcast by blackdoctor.org through its Facebook Live and Youtube streaming services. A link to these sites will be available later this week. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 4, 7:00-8:30 p.m. ET to take part in this important discussion. For more information, email Joe Franco.
