Act For Older Adults
Yesterday we held a national-local media event in partnership with LeadingAge Florida as part of our Act For Older Adults advocacy and media campaign. Together we released a new Florida Situation Report and called for Congressional leadership and legislation to protect millions of older adults from the worst pandemic in a century.

Our president and CEO Katie Smith Sloan was joined by Steve Bahmer, CEO of LeadingAge Florida, and Jay Solomon, CEO of Aviva, A Campus for Senior Life in Sarasota, Florida. Participating press included reporters from the Associated Press, Miami Herald, McKnight’s, Skilled Nursing News, local Florida news and radio, and many others.

Steve captured the dire situation in Florida: “Many aging care providers are struggling to keep up, and they’re hurtling towards a fiscal cliff … We are counting on Senator Rubio and Senator Scott to lead on this issue in Washington.“

Today: NIA Summit on Dementia Care
Robyn Stone of the LeadingAge LTSS Center @UMass Boston is participating in the second session of the 2020 National Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons with Dementia and Their Caregivers, sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The online session takes place today, July 21, from 1-4:30 p.m. Stone, who serves on the summit steering committee, will co-lead discussions of 2 summit themes:

  • Long-Term Services and Supports in Home, Community, and Residential Care Settings for Persons with Dementia and their Caregivers.
  • Services and Supports in Medical Care Settings for Persons with Dementia.
