Dear LeadingAge Colleagues,

We’re only a few weeks into the evolving coronavirus health emergency, but “business as usual” seems like a distant memory. I know this is true for you as you work tirelessly to help residents, clients, and team members remain healthy and safe during this crisis. Thank you for the courageous work you are doing!

As you change your ways of operating to cope with this crisis, I want you to know that LeadingAge is here for you. Here’s a rundown of how we’re working to support you.

Policy Updates, Analysis, and Tools: Our national policy team is fully focused on the coronavirus. On the regulatory side, we’re in touch with government agencies, including CMS and HUD, to clarify guidance and get answers to questions that matter most to you. We’re also advocating strongly on the legislative side for the support and funding you need. Look for daily analysis, tools, and templates that you can use in your coronavirus response, along with other related resources on our website

Strength Through Shared Practices: LeadingAge was founded on the principle that we are strongest when we are working together. That is more true now than ever. That’s why we’re initiating several mechanisms for members to connect with one another. Starting this week, we’re testing a daily call-in so members can hear from us directly and ask questions about the very latest developments. Visit our website to register for the daily call  or listen to recordings as they become available. In addition, we urge you to share your best practices through the new COVID-19 Group in the MyLeadingAge Member Community. Log in to your member account and join the group to pose questions of peers and talk about operational processes. We’ll also be sharing your innovative practices through website articles, so watch for those in coming days.

Leadership and Advocacy: As the trusted voice for aging, LeadingAge is speaking out proactively to ensure that decision makers and the public have accurate information about how the coronavirus is impacting our field. We’ve launched a robust media campaign to meet this goal. I’ve already given numerous interviews with the national, local, and trade press, and more are planned. Take a look at our most recent press statements, as well as other media materials you can customize and use locally.

Curating Opportunities: Many businesses and organizations are offering materials, products, and services that can support you during the pandemic. We will begin curating the best of these trusted resources to complement the support you receive from us directly. Look for those Trusted Resources on our website and in regular member emails.

Finally, out of respect for the challenging work you are doing each day, LeadingAge will limit  our communications with you for the foreseeable future. Expect regular emails from us cataloging the very latest coronavirus news and resources. Most of our other communications will be restricted for the foreseeable future.

Rest assured that we are still working on a range of issues for you. Once we’re past this immediate crisis, we’ll update you on our continuing work to address the breadth of member needs.

Thank you for all that you are doing for older Americans.

With admiration,

Katie Smith Sloan
