AL Data Portal Delayed; Deadline Extended

Regulation | July 30, 2020 | by Nicole Fallon

The launch of the private assisted living data collection portal being developed as part of a multi-association effort that includes LeadingAge, has been delayed but HHS has extended the deadline for the senior living associations to provide this data to the agency. Also, providers will now have until Monday, August 3 at 5 p.m. ET to submit their data into the portal.

The multi association plan was to make the portal link and instructions available on Wednesday, July 29. However, while the portal is built and seems intuitive and easy to navigate, providers testing the system encountered glitches. Therefore, the vendor is working to fix those glitches and retest before the associations distribute to members to ensure an optimal experience once the portal goes live. Members are understandably anxious about the short timeframe to submit the data and don't wish to miss their opportunity.

With the technical challenges in mind, HHS granted a short extension to the associations to compile the final data list and submit it to HHS. Each ot the associations, including LeadingAge will communicate information about how to access the portal as soon as it is available. The provider submission deadline has been extended to Monday, August 3 at 5 p.m. ET.

As LeadingAge CEO Katie Smith Sloan noted in her email to members on Monday, eligible providers can be preparing now by pulling this data together so they are ready the moment the portal opens. Those data elements that private pay licensed/registered/certified assisted living/memory care should start preparing include:

  • Name of licensed/registered/certified assisted living and/or memory care community
  • Name of entity that holds the license/registration/certification
  • Address
  • Community license/registration/certification number (some states may not provide a number)
  • Corresponding Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Taxpayer ID Number for the filing company
  • Contact information for the person submitting data

LeadingAge appreciates members patience as we work through these technical challenges. Again, we will communicate the portal information as soon as we are able and appreciate your patience. Questions on this data collection effort can be directed to our leadingage@leadingage.org email box.
