K4Connect to Implement Connected-Life Platform at The Cardinal

CAST Business Associate K4Connect is implementing K4Community in 225 residents' apartments at The Cardinal at North Hills, a Kisco Senior Living community in Raleigh, NC. The Cardinal is the Triangle region's only full-service continuing care retirement community.

Retirement communities are the perfect environment in which to test devices that will help older adults, says a recent article in the New York Times.

In communities throughout the nation, residents are testing new technology for companies like OhmniLabs that are looking to solve issues like isolation, loneliness, and lack of caregivers for older adults with devices such as a telepresence robot.

The 21st Century Cures Act, signed into law on December 13, 2016, included several measures to encourage health IT interoperability and Electronic Health Records (EHRs) certification. Former President Obama issued several rules that would prompt the act's implementation. In response to the White House's directive, under President Trump, for a 60-day regulatory freeze on all new and pending federal regulations, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has withdrawn certain rules affecting the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
