In 2013, Goodwin House (GHI) in Northern Virginia developing created an “Emerging Leaders Program” to help existing employees move up the career ladder.
In 2013, Goodwin House (GHI) in Northern Virginia developing created an “Emerging Leaders Program” to help existing employees move up the career ladder -- and to make sure that the organization would have the talent it needed to innovate and expand. A special task force created a comprehensive program for emerging leaders with a focus on developing key leadership traits, such as inspiring and implementing change, transforming organizations, and improving overall performance.
- Participants from all over the meet about twice a month for 7 months for a full day. Below is a sampling of only a few of the courses:
- Purposeful and values-based leadership
- Influence and decision making
- Leading change and motivating others
- Fundamentals of marketing and PR
- Financial management
Each participant is paired with a mentor and classes are taught by a mixture of outside professionals and in-house leaders. The program has worked: 60% of alumni have been promoted and 10% have had their job expanded.
