Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE) was joined by Reps.  Shontel Brown (D-OH-11) and Carlos Gimenez (R-FL-21) on the September 25, 2026 introduction of the Affordable Housing Preservation and Protection Act.

The bill, If enacted, would provide loans to owners of distressed Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)-assisted housing, including Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program homes, to ensure they are able to make necessary capital improvements and continue to provide housing for our country’s most vulnerable households. Sen. Blunt Rochester has been vocal about the need to follow up the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act—which was heavy on statutory changes and light on funding—with more tangible action.
