January 12, 2023 Washington, DC – As 2023 kicks off, the LeadingAge Board of Directors enters the third year of its strategic plan with a renewed commitment to supporting mission-driven provider members—empowering them with tools and resources for building strong communities, and ensuring quality care and supports for older adults and their families.
“Workforce continues to be our members’ primary concern and our organization’s top priority because without dedicated aging services professionals, there is no care. An all-of-government approach is vital to ensure that older adults and families can access the care they need wherever they call home,” said Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of LeadingAge, the association of mission-driven, nonprofit providers of aging services. “On behalf of our members, we will continue working with the Biden Administration, as well as the new Congress, to push for fair reimbursement that truly covers the cost of care, and on a range of policy solutions that build the domestic and international applicant pipelines and fund recruitment and retention programs.”
Sloan added, “I look forward to working with our board on more ways we can lift up our nonprofit members with what they need to keep their doors open, from leadership development to scenario planning.”
The board, led by chair Mike King of Volunteers of America, is composed of executives from LeadingAge membership of more than 5,000 aging-focused organizations providing services to older adults across the care continuum, from skilled nursing to home health, hospice and senior living communities, including affordable housing for low-income older adults. The board provides strategic leadership, policy direction, and fiduciary oversight; members shape LeadingAge’s activities during their terms, and influence how the association works to transform aging services. The board’s work continues to expand exploration of and resources to help provider organizations cultivate an ongoing practice of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
In 2023, LeadingAge welcomes three board members beginning new terms. Rev. Ken Daniel is president and CEO of United Church Homes, which provides a range of services across the care continuum in 15 states. Justine Vogel is president and CEO of The RiverWoods Group, a group of three not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) in New England. Danny Williams is former president and CEO of Eliza Bryant Village, a 125-year-old aging services provider with deep roots serving underprivileged African Americans in Ohio.
In addition to these new members, board members Walter Ramos, CEO of Rogerson Communities, will be adding Treasurer and Terri Cunliffe, CEO of Covenant Living Communities, will be adding Secretary to their responsibilities.
