The 2018 LeadingAge Annual Meeting & EXPO last month was a big success, with three days of sharing innovations and best practices in senior living technologies. This month, we delve into meeting wrap-ups, explore the newly released LeadingAge Ziegler 200, review the new LeadingAge CAST Safety Technology Tool, and check out a new CHIME report of national healthcare technology trends.
We’ll also discuss how a new federal rule could expand telehealth and peruse the potential of artificial intelligence to improve senior living.
LeadingAge and Ziegler Release LZ 200
LeadingAge has joined with Ziegler, a LeadingAge Gold Partner with CAST Focus and one of the nation’s leading underwriters of financing for not-for-profit senior living providers, to release the new, expanded 2018 LeadingAge Ziegler 200 (LZ 200).
Thanks to a growing healthcare industry and increased interest in the findings, the 2018 report includes 50 more organizations than last year’s version. This year marks the report’s 15th Anniversary Edition.
The LZ 200 shows how the nation’s 200 largest not-for-profit multi-site senior living organizations are using technologies to carry out electronic documentation, monitor older adults’ safety, support physical exercise and rehabilitation, and more.

2018 LeadingAge Meeting Highlights Necessity of Technology
An important takeaway from the 2018 LeadingAge Annual Meeting and EXPO is that technology is no longer a luxury, but a need for senior living providers.
In a summary of the meeting, held Oct. 28-31 in Philadelphia, HealthTech noted that the industry should be tech savvy at an infrastructure and end-user level. Leadership should look at technology from a business standpoint and be open-minded about how seniors may use technology.
Additional stories gave important insights on artificial intelligence, the information technology of disaster response, security in senior care, social connectedness and engagement technologies, and the role of teamwork among healthcare leaders.
CMS Rule Could Expand Access to Telehealth
See how a proposed Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rule that expands access to telehealth services into urban settings could be a win for home health providers, technology vendors, and patients, according to a recent article in Home Health Care News.
CHIME Report Calls for Foundational Technology
Be sure to check the findings from CHIME’s “Healthcare’s Most Wired: National Trends 2018,” which says that improving healthcare hinges on sound foundational infrastructure technology, including integration and interoperability. The report also shared information on organizations’ use of security and disaster recovery technologies, population health management technologies, telehealth, and more.
