On May 17, CMS announced that effective June 1, 2024, the demonstration will be extended for an additional five years. The intent of the Review Choice Demonstration for Home Health Services is to provide flexibility and choice for home health agencies and reduce burden on providers to demonstrate compliance through limited time pre or post payment reviews. The demonstration was initially slated to end May 31, 2024, after multiple extensions. The demonstration will be continuing in the current demonstration states of Illinois, Ohio, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, and Oklahoma. As part of the extension CMS is removing one of the choices of claims review, Choice 3: Minimal Review with 25% Payment Reduction from the initial choice selections. Palmetto GBA, the Medicare Administrative Contractor conducting the demonstration, will proactively reach out to coordinate with the small number of affected providers to make a new review choice selection. Any providers who feel it is a hardship to continue participation in their current review choice selection (either pre-claim review or post-payment review) will be given the opportunity to update their choice with Palmetto by June 14, 2024. All other Home Health providers in the demonstration states will continue in their current review cycles and follow their regular cycle timelines. For Oklahoma providers, the choice selection period for cycle 2 is July 1, 2024, through July 15, 2024. Cycle 2 will begin on August 1, 2024.
