The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced on July 2 more than $200 million in funding to support 42 programs aimed at improving care for older Americans, including those with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
HRSA’s Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) will train primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health care clinicians to provide age-friendly and dementia-friendly care for older adults. This workforce initiative, which LeadingAge supports, embeds geriatric training into primary care, ensuring healthcare providers are prepared to identify and meet the needs of older patients.
