Older Adults Have A Higher Risk

Most deaths from flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are in people older than age 65—and the risk grows with age. Older adults suffer as many as eight out of 10 flu deaths in the U.S., and tens of thousands are hospitalized due to RSV infection each year.

That’s why LeadingAge joins organizations nationwide as a collaborator with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) throughout fall 2024 into early 2025 on an important public educational effort aimed at reducing illness from and limiting the spread of these highly contagious viruses. By sharing Risk Less. Do More. research-based campaign messages and materials, members can inform and protect their communities from highly contagious respiratory viruses.
