MatrixCare AI Tools Prevent Falls and Reduce Need for Antipsychotic Drugs

An article by Bharat Monteiro, the general manager of Senior Living & Long-Term Care for MatrixCare, shares the organization’s success with artificial intelligence (AI) tools to prevent falls and improve residents’ moods. “Leveraging AI for improved clinical outcomes and enhanced resident care in LTC facilities” appeared in McKnight’s Long-Term Care News.

MatrixCare uses remote monitoring and fall detection solutions based on AI and machine learning. These tools improve clinical outcomes for residents in long-term care facilities and enable staff to take fall-prevention measures. Implementing these AI-driven technologies helped lower falls by 8% in an initial cohort of 200+ long-term care communities.

By analyzing data points and utilizing AI-based models to monitor mood changes, MatrixCare has reduced its administration of antipsychotic medication to residents by 20% and decrease use of antianxiety or hypnotic medications by 7%. MatrixCare is a LeadingAge Silver Partner with CAST Focus.

OATS from AARP Opens Miami’s First Technology-Themed Community Center for Older Adults

Older Adults Technology Services (OATS) from AARP is opening a new Senior Planet center for older adults in the vibrant, cultural neighborhood of Wynwood in Miami. It is the area’s first technology-themed community center for older adults. Visitors can get help with technology and learn new skills in a spacious, modern center packed with 72 screens, featuring state-of-the-art computer equipment and Wi-Fi—all free of charge.

The new Senior Planet center, located in a former art gallery, will serve as a community hub for the 50-plus population. Programs will emphasize technology training in an enriching social setting. Multilingual technology classes, one-on-one technology training, and tech discussion groups are on the way.
