Future of the DEL
A recent article in McKnight’s Long-Term Care News, “DEL-ivering the goods,” quoted me as well as Hannah Patterson, director of product management for CAST Supporter Netsmart, and Carrie O’Connell, RN, executive vice president of clinical informatics at CAST Business Associate HCS.
This article discussed the new data element library (DEL) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, a database that supports the exchange of standardized and universally readable electronic health information.
A majority of long-term care providers have electronic health records and are ready to implement the DEL, which could improve care coordination, outcomes, reimbursement, and providers’ workflow.
Trends
In a recent guest column, Mark McIntyre, executive vice president and general manager for CAST Business Associate CareWorx, explained why all senior care communities should adopt enterprise-grade wireless.
In another guest column, Lisa McCracken, senior vice president of senior living research and development at Ziegler, a LeadingAge Gold Partner with CAST Focus, outlined four benefits of virtual care. These involve staffing issues, plus improved health, greater independence, and higher social connectedness for older adults. Please also download Ziegler’s recent white paper, “Deconstructing the Telehealth Industry: Part II.”
