The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced through the latest MLN Connects Newsletter on July 17 that errors have been identified in the Core-Based Statistical Area (CBSA) zip code files for January, April, and July 2025. The CBSAs are used to classify providers as rural or urban when determining wage indices for payment rates.

CMS has made corrections to files and providers may see adjustments as Medicare Administrative Contractors reprocess affected claims.
