In an August 21 executive order headlined, “Improving Our Nation Through Better Design,” President Trump calls for a national “America by Design” initiative, which seeks “to improve the visual presentation and usability of Federal services provided to the public in both digital and physical spaces.”
This EO establishes a National Design Studio (NDS), established within the president’s executive office and headed by an administrator who will report to the White House Chief of Staff; agency heads are required to work with the administrator and NDS’ Chief Design Officer to improve their websites and physical sites. The initiative is expected to produce initial results by July 4, 2026 and “will prioritize improving website and physical sites that have a major impact on American’s everyday lives.”
The executive order would suggest that we can expect agency website updates that improve how our providers and the older adults we serve interface with and navigate the federal government websites and services.
We would expect medicare.gov to be one of the prioritized sites, as it provides critical information to help older adults navigate decisions about their Medicare benefits and reporting concerns about the program.
