LeadingAge joined a “partners” panel on June 27 for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 90th anniversary celebration of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). Opening the event, HUD Acting Secretary Adrienne Todman called the FHA a “force for the entire housing ecosystem” and asked staff and others gathered to think about how future historians will gauge what the current FHA does and what it does not do.
“What will the future say that we have done to create the strongest country?” Todman asked. FHA Commissioner/Assistant Secretary for Housing Julia Gordon and former FHA Commissioner and HUD Deputy Secretary Brian Montgomery expressed deep gratitude for the FHA’s work in multifamily, single family, residential care facilities like nursing homes and assisted living, and hospitals. LeadingAge’s senior vice president for policy and advocacy Linda Couch congratulated the FHA and HUD multifamily programs for being the driver of affordable housing, nursing home, and assisted living financing for older adults who need these programs when they are often at their most vulnerable.
