FY22 HUD Bill Passes House
On June 29, the House passed its fiscal year 2022 HUD appropriations bill. The bill represents a more than 11% increase for HUD funding compared to fiscal year 2021. For HUD’s flagship housing assistance program for older adults, the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program, the bill provides a 21% increase compared to fiscal year 2021.
The bill was in a large package of seven appropriations bills, H.R. 4502, and passed by a vote of 219 – 208.
See LeadingAge’s analysis of the HUD appropriations bill here, and a review of the House report accompanying the bill here.
The House has now passed all 12 of its fiscal year 2022 appropriations bills. The Senate will begin consideration of its bills the week of August 3, but consideration of the Senate HUD bill will not be until after the Senate’s August recess.
LeadingAge’s affordable senior housing funding priorities include expanding the supply of affordable senior housing, expanding the number of Service Coordinators, full and timely renewal funding for all existing housing contracts, and internet throughout affordable senior buildings, including in resident units. LeadingAge’s priorities are here.
LeadingAge supports the House bill and has encouraged the Senate to fund HUD programs at the highest level possible as quickly as possible.
