On February 26, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner announced that the agency is terminating the 2021 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule (AFFH), which is seen as a key fair housing policy.
The AFFH rule directs the federal government to promote fair housing choice, eliminate disparities in housing, and foster inclusive communities; according to HUD’s press release, under Secretary Turner’s new interim final rule, a locality’s certification that it is promoting fair housing would be deemed sufficient, replacing the previous framework for ensuring fair housing procedures.
LeadingAge fully supports fair housing and will monitor the impacts on our affordable housing member communities.
