LeadingAge Applauds HUD Fair Housing Efforts
On April 24, LeadingAge submitted comments to Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) applauding the agency’s efforts to improve affirmative fair housing practices throughout the housing portfolio.
In February, HUD proposed implementation of new rules to expand community engagement and enforcement actions while streamlining Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) planning requirements for affordable housing agencies.
LeadingAge’s April 24 comments commend the agency for implementing more robust community engagement requirements, a streamlined required analysis, greater transparency, and an increased emphasis on goal setting and measuring progress.
While Multifamily Housing providers don’t themselves submit “Equity Plans” required of Public Housing Authorities, the rule makes it easier for Multifamily Housing providers to collaborate with state and local governments and with Public Housing Authorities to help set meaningful goals for fair housing outcomes.
