LeadingAge submitted broad comments August 17 about the elements of CMMI’s thoughts on a future specialty care episodic-based payment model. The comments stressed to CMMI that future models should look at opportunities to reduce costs by managing care for Medicare beneficiaries in order to avoid a hospitalization and paying providers to deliver a more robust chronic care management approach.

We also noted that CMMI and its models needed to consider the important role that post-acute and long-term services and supports providers can play in helping them achieve their accountable care goals that go far beyond just reducing post-acute care.
