Congratulations to Congresswoman Marcia Fudge and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra

December 17, 2020 Washington, DC—Statement from Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO, LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, including affordable housing for older adults living on low incomes, nursing homes and other providers across the care continuum:

Congresswoman Marcia Fudge:

“LeadingAge congratulates Congresswoman Marcia Fudge on her nomination as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development under the incoming Biden Administration. Addressing the severe shortage of housing affordable to older adults with low incomes and realizing the benefits of interlaced housing and health solutions will help America age stronger. Strong HUD programs are integral to the ability of older adults to age in community. LeadingAge, whose members provide millions of older adults with affordable housing and supports through the 202 Housing for the Elderly and other programs, looks forward to working with the incoming Administration on these and other shared goals.”

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra:

“LeadingAge welcomes the nomination of California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as President-elect Biden’s Secretary of Health and Human Services. His advocacy for access to healthcare and his interest in aging and long-term care services during his ten years in the House of Representatives point to the attention he is likely to give to the needs of older adults during this pandemic and beyond. We look forward to working with him and his future HHS team on issues and policies concerning the well-being of older Americans and of the providers who care for them.”
