November 15, 2023 Washington, DC — Statement from Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO, LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services, including nursing homes, on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) nursing home ownership disclosure and transparency final rule:

“Our nonprofit mission-driven members disclose ownership and management information through Internal Revenue Service filings that are freely available to the public and we recognize the value of transparency and accountability of nursing home ownership in promoting nursing home excellence. 

The final rule, which we support, will facilitate further research and analysis of how and to what extent ownership types affect and correlate with outcomes and the quality of care provided to nursing home residents. CMS has committed in the final rule to providing further guidance and examples concerning the scope of data that must be submitted, as well as how the information submitted by providers will be published. We will work closely with the agency on these important issues as it moves toward implementation of the requirements.”
