Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA) introduced the House version of the Delivering Unified Access to Lifesaving Services (DUALS) Act on May 23. This is similar legislation to the bill, S.3950, introduced by Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and a bipartisan group of Senators earlier this year.
Our March 14 press statement at the Senate bill’s introduction emphasized the urgent need to address the shortcomings of our country’s current approach to delivering long-term services and supports. “For too many older adults, particularly those with low incomes and multiple, chronic health conditions, accessing care and services through Medicare and Medicaid is a fraught endeavor that ends in frustration and – worse yet – inadequate results,” noted LeadingAge president and CEO Katie Smith Sloan.
LeadingAge is supporting this legislation while continuing work to further improve it as it makes its way through the Congressional process.
