It’s a busy month for CAST, as we prepare for the annual long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) Health IT Summit and unveil an updated Electronic Health Records (EHR) Selection Portfolio. Our members have joined us in speaking with reporters about technology and expanding their platforms. This month, we’re also inviting you to contribute to the design of accessible transportation, a bus named Olli. Let’s get started.
Attend the LTPAC Health IT Summit
Join us for the 13th annual LTPAC Health IT Summit on June 25-27 in Baltimore, MD. CAST and LeadingAge are co-sponsors and co-organizers of this premier conference for health IT leaders, key policymakers, providers, representatives of federal and state agencies, and other professionals working in the LTPAC field.
This year, we will help facilitate two sessions and a meet-and-greet:
- Innovation in Person-Centered Care Planning and Care Coordination.
- Health IT Adoption and Trends for LTPAC.
- Pre-Summit Gathering of the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative.

Explore the Updated EHR Selection Portfolio
On June 15, LeadingAge CAST released an updated Electronic Health Records (EHR) Selection Portfolio that includes a new case study: Leveraging EHR Platform to Improve Resident Assessment, Consistency, Care Quality and Increase Revenue in Assisted Living.
Recent data indicate that CAST’s 7-Stage EHR adoption model, introduced last year, is raising awareness and driving adoption of advanced EHR functionalities and features.

CAST News
CAST and CAST Commissioners have made news several times lately, talking about how technology can shape the future of senior living.
In a recent interview with DistilINFO, I shared thoughts on top LTPAC technology trends, how CAST is helping LTPAC providers, how payer and acute health care executives can plan for the future, and how to guard against cyber threats. The article, High-Tech Aging – Improving Lives, also gave insights into my background and leadership style.
Three CAST Commissioners and I are featured in The 21st Century Senior Living Community, a new report from Senior Housing News and CDW-Healthcare introducing a tech ecosystem that completely re-imagines senior living. The report quotes John Couture of CAST Patron Lifespace Communities, Joyce Miller of Ohio Living Corporate, and Kari Olson with CAST Patron Front Porch and the Front Porch Center for Innovation and Wellbeing. It also presents my take on the 21st Century Community in a Q&A.
A recent article in Kiplinger, Tech Revolution Benefits the Aging, mentions the robotic pets used at CAST Patron Front Porch for residents in skilled nursing and memory care. The piece, in which I helped the reporter identify several technology solutions, quotes me on the costs of robotic prosthetic limbs and the anticipated price drops in the next five years.
Design Transportation Solutions
The Consumer Technology Association Foundation has partnered with IBM and Local Motors to create an accessible self-driving community shuttle bus called Olli. Now, you can help design the most inclusive experience for Olli riders of all ages and abilities, focusing on mobility impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments, and/or cognitive disabilities. Learn about the challenge.
