LeadingAge and our dedicated members strive 24/7 to make America a better place to grow old. To achieve that goal it’s vital that key stakeholders—including the public, media, and policymakers—understand the vast and diverse population we serve, as well as their circumstances and needs.
We recently produced a snapshot of the status of aging in the nation. The America Is Aging infographic provides key data on the demographics, health, wealth, and living conditions of older adults.
This resource is timely, as the United States recently hit a significant milestone: older adults (60+) now outnumber children (under 10) for the first time in 100 years. This will impact all parts of society—including how older adults and families access care and support. The nation’s policies and support systems must adapt rapidly for a more tech-friendly, diverse, and outspoken cohort of older adults.
Resourceful and resilient aging services providers are adapting to the current demands for service. But their commitment, alone, is not enough. Support for older adults and their families must be elevated to a national priority with a comprehensive response to address the growing need for essential care and services. We hope this document helps mobilize that support.
Please share this information with your professional and personal networks. And lend your voice to the calls for changes to support older adults, wherever they call home.
