February 10, 2021 Washington DC – Even as it steps up calls for an immediate relief package from Congress, LeadingAge, the national organization representing more than 5,000 nonprofit aging services organizations, today kicked off an action plan to ensure our nation’s older adults and their families are never again thrust into perilous circumstances like those they confront today.

On February 5, the House and Senate passed a Budget Resolution authorizing $1.9 Trillion for COVID-19 relief and directing the committees of jurisdiction to develop the substantive legislation needed to implement the resolution. We anticipate fast action, as House committees release their proposed bills and begin the process of preparing them for votes this week. Senate action is expected in the next couple of weeks, with a final bill by mid-March.

The February 5 House and Senate passage of budget resolutions kicked off what will be a fast several weeks of Hill activity on the next COVID-19 relief package. The respective budget resolutions include budget reconciliation instructions to authorizing committees. Each authorizing committee is now tasked with developing its share of a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill. Congress is aiming to enact the package by mid-March when federal bump-ups to unemployment assistance end.

LeadingAge has published an updated, "10 Red Flags in LIHTC Deals." Low Income Housing Tax Credit "Year-15" disputes have continued, too often damaging the position of nonprofit owners. With the rise of housing credit industry aggregators, LIHTC developers should look out for 10 key “red flags” in their project partnerships. The 10 red flags are drawn from the experiences of LeadingAge members, the National Housing Trust, and insights from  key industry issues.

President Joe Biden released his $1.9 Trillion “American Rescue Plan: Emergency Legislative Package to Fund Vaccinations, Provide Immediate, Direct Relief to Families Bearing the Brunt of the COVID-19 Crisis, and Support Struggling Communities.” The Plan provides a roadmap to guide America out of the COVID-19 pandemic. The package is organized around seven goals to address the healthcare, economic, and societal harms caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The mandate to provide paid sick leave and FMLA leave for employees that met the requirements set out in FFCRA and updated in September 2020 ended December 31, 2020.
