Two online databases of COVID-19-related state- and local-rental assistance programs may help: 1) aging services providers to help renters (and, often, homeowners) retain stable housing, and 2) help affordable senior housing owners receive relief for rental income shortfall experienced as renters declare eligibility for the CDC’s eviction moratorium for nonpayment of rent.

Like all health care providers, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged home health providers’ ability to provide care to patients. Specifically, since home health agencies (HHAs) deliver care in people’s homes, they faced a combination of fear and preference from both staff and patients and their families to receive fewer contacts and therefore, fewer in-person visits.

A national survey of senior housing providers finds COVID-19 cases in majority of communities, and that financial strain and resident social isolation are key concerns

On October 21, LeadingAge released the results of an early October survey of the impact of COVID-19 on affordable senior housing provider members. The unscientific survey sheds light on providers of housing for more 2.5 million federally-assisted senior housing homes.

Today’s White House Webinar on the Trump Administration’s support of older adults and vulnerable populations ravaged by COVID featured remarks by Vice President Mike Pence; HHS Secretary Alex Azar; CMS Administrator Seema Verma; HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Brett Giroir; and Rear Admiral John Polowczyk. Universally, all speakers praised the hard work and dedication of aging services organizations and their staff in the battle against COVID and expressed gratitude.

Today, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. The hearing was an opportunity for the Select Subcommittee to explore the impacts of COVID-19 on America, and the Administration’s response to the public health emergency. This is the first time Secretary Azar has testified before Congress since February, when the United States had fewer than 20 confirmed deaths.

The President has signed into law a continuing resolution (CR), keeping federal programs funded at fiscal year 2020 levels until December 11. The 11-week CR was necessary because none of the 12 annual appropriations bills, including the bill that funds all HUD programs, were enacted prior to the October 1 start of fiscal year 2021.

In addition to funding programs at last year’s funding levels, the CR includes several “anomalies,” or adjustments, to address program peculiarities. Among these are two anomalies related to affordable senior housing.
