Chairman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Ranking Member Bernie Sanders (I-VT) of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee were joined by other Senators in the June 18, 2025 reintroduction of the Older Americans Act (OAA) Reauthorization Act.
The OAA authorizes numerous programs providing funding for services to older adults including preventive health services, family caregiver supports, home delivered meals, community-based services, adult protective services, among others.
Many community-based services providers contract with their local Area Agencies on Aging to administer OAA programs, and many aging services providers connect to OAA programs to help meet the needs of older adults.
The act was last authorized in 2020 and expired during the last congress. The newly introduced text would reauthorize programs through 2030.
