The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a proposed rule on April 10 to adjust requirements for applicant criminal background screening conducted by HUD-assisted housing providers. This analysis reviews the current approach to criminal background screening, discusses the proposed changes, and compiles the most impactful regulatory documents impacting HUD policies.
