Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) and three other Democrats released a report on October 29, 2026, examining the impact of private equity and other corporate structures on the nursing home sector. The investigation follows a January article in the New York Times about connections between nursing home executives and a Trump Administration super PAC.
The October 29 report details its viewpoint on how current oversight of nursing home ownership and spending has created an environment for bad actors to take advantage of the system, tunneling money to themselves and away from the nursing home and the residents in its care. This report comes on the heels of the October 16 release of a Request for Information by Senate Finance Committee Democrats seeking feedback on strategies for reforming long-term care. The RFI includes a specific section on nursing homes in which they discuss at length issues surrounding transparency in nursing home ownership, operators, and related party transactions.
