Extend Telehealth Flexibilities: LeadingAge, 80+ Health Organizations Urge Congress
LeadingAge joined more than 80 health organizations in sending a March 10 letter urging Congressional leaders to extend COVID era telehealth flexibilities set to expire on March 31 for as long as possible, and at a minimum, through the end of the year. The letter, organized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), requests the extension of multiple telehealth flexibilities vital to the provision of long-term and post-acute care, including waiving geographic and originating site restrictions; expanding the list of eligible practitioners to include physical therapist, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists; permitting the use of audio-only technology; and allowing hospice recertifications via telehealth. The Senate is currently considering a stop-gap spending bill, passed by the House on March 11, that would extend these telehealth flexibilities through September 30.
