The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on September 3, 2025 announced the termination of the 2021 Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Venezuela.
This designation, which is estimated to provide status to over 250,000 individuals, was set to expire on September 10.
The effective date of the termination will be 60 days after the publication of the Federal Register notice, which will be November 7, 2025.
This decision follows a DHS review of country conditions and consultation with interagency partners, which led DHS to conclude that Venezuela no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS and that continuing the designation is contrary to the national interest. Venezuela had a separate TPS designation issued in 2023, which was terminated earlier this year. Members are encouraged to stay informed and consider how this change may affect individuals in their communities and workforce.
