The White House on January 8, 2026 announced the creation of a new division within the U.S. Department of Justice to combat what the White House called “rampant” fraud across the country.
The division “will enforce the federal criminal and civil laws against fraud targeting federal government programs, federally funded benefits, businesses, nonprofits and private citizens nationwide,” according to a White House Fact Sheet.
The new Assistant Attorney General for the division oversee multi-district and multi-agency fraud investigations working closely with agencies and department components to identify and disrupt these organized and sophisticated fraud schemes.
