The House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Health on March 18, 2026 held a hearing, “Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: An Examination of the U.S. Provider Landscape.”
Representatives from a broad representation of the healthcare system, including hospitals, specialists, primary care, managed care programs, and long-term services and supports (LTSS) provided testimony.
The witness from ANCOR, a provider association representing service providers in the intellectual and developmental disability space, represented LTSS. Her statement focused on the importance and cost effectiveness of home and community based services in meeting the needs of people with disabilities. Questions addressed to her generally sought clarification of the economic benefit of home and community based services (HCBS) and how they keep recipients out of institutions.
Members of the Republican majority used the hearing to focus on hospital pricing and price setting transparency while Democrats tied private insurance cost increases to Medicaid cuts from HR 1 and increases in uncompensated care at hospitals.
As Congress continues its inquiries in healthcare affordability and fraud, we anticipate more hearings. LeadingAge will continue to monitor these sessions for potential policy interventions and trends.
