Armsmear, a historic landmark in the heart of Hartford, is a private nonprofit organization that provides affordable independent living for women over 60 of limited income. Elizabeth Hart Jarvis Colt, a foresighted philanthropist, left her home and much of her estate to provide a residence for women . Elizabeth Colt's remarkable legacy endures in the community she created for women in need.

Features Include
Armsmear provides social activities throughout the year both on our campus and excursions off campus for our residents. Examples are: picnics, luncheons, musical concerts, speaker program, garden club, holiday parties, museums, plays and theatre. Transportation is provided by our staff for residents to local grocery and department stores , special medical appointments and/or procedures, and post hospitalization to return to Armsmear. Our Executive Director provides advocacy and support to our residents as requested . Examples are: attendance to patient care meetings during hospitalization, attaining home care services and or other services to maintain independence in their home. We have a close relationship with the Church of the Good Shepherd, which was built and support by Elizabeth Hart Jarvis Colt in memory of her husband and children. In her honor we have a beautiful Chapel in our main building. Episcopal services are held weekly in our Chapel.
