The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released an updated technical assistance document, “Visual Disabilities in the Workplace and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),” on July 26. The resource explains how the ADA applies to job applicants and employees with visual disabilities and outlines when an employer may ask an applicant or employee questions about their vision and how they should treat voluntary disclosures about visual disabilities. The document also addresses what types of reasonable accommodations those with vision impairment may need in the workplace and highlights new technologies available to support accommodation.
