CAST Releases Safety Technology Selection Tool
LeadingAge CAST has released a new CAST Technology Selection Tool, on Safety Technology for Long-Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC). The tool will help LeadingAge members understand the uses and benefits of safety technologies—and plan for, select, and implement those that best fit their requirements. The tool includes a White Paper, an Interactive Guide, an Online Selection Tool, a Product Matrix, and two CAST Case Studies. Learn more about the new tool.
New Focus for 2019 Collaborative Care & Health IT Innovations Summit
As a reminder, the Long-Term Post-Acute Care Health IT Summit will become the Collaborative Care & Health IT Innovations Summit in its 15th year. The new name reflects the Summit’s role in aligning the LTPAC sector with acute care and payers. The next event will be held in Baltimore, MD, June 23-25, 2019.

I recently updated an issue brief on Aging Services Technologies (ASTs) for Grantmakers In Aging (GIA). GIA’s Issue Brief series offers valuable information to help funders respond to the transformational aging of the American population. NIA Announces Competition for Alzheimer’s Care Software
If you are developing innovative solutions, check out a new challenge competition for Alzheimer’s care software from the National Institute on Aging (NIA). The NIA is offering up to $250,000 in cash prizes to spur and reward the development of computer-based technology applications to improve dementia care coordination and/or care navigation. The deadline is June 30, 2019.
Encouraging Older Adults to Use Technology
One challenge of aging-services technologies is that older adults may be embarrassed to use them. In a Forbes and Next Avenue article, I share ideas for how to get around the perceived stigma of safety technologies.
Technology Focus Is Key to Innovation
In a recent article in Senior Housing News, “Facing ‘Fire Hose’ Of Innovation, Senior Living Ups Its Game,” I discussed the importance of a champion at the executive or board level who advocates for technology and innovation. LeadingAge members are doing so, seeking out tech-savvy board members from sectors with heavy investments in technology, such as acute care, hospitality and banking.
Amazon Ships New Echo and Alexa Solutions
In October, Amazon will begin shipping new Echo devices and new Alexa features. They may be valuable upgrades to Echo and Alexa options that senior living communities—including some CAST members—are already using.
