In a surprise move on March 11, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia Fudge announced her resignation from the agency’s helm, effective March 22.
Known as a bold and committed public servant from Ohio who advanced efforts to expand housing access, Secretary Fudge said in a media interview that she will not pursue political office. Secretary Fudge announced her departure on the same day as the President’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget proposal was released, including ambitious new proposals for HUD.
Overall, Secretary Fudge’s departure shakes up an otherwise notably stable Presidential cabinet; with eight months left in the term, the White House has said they will nominate a replacement and has selected the HUD Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman as Acting Secretary in the meantime.
On behalf of LeadingAge members, thank you Secretary Fudge!
