As you strive to offer innovative and forward-thinking solutions for older adults living with dementia, do you ever stop to consider why we often segregate people based on a diagnosis, and wonder if there is a better way? Join us for a chance to grapple with these and many other questions by participating in our new shared learning series, Embracing Dementia Inclusion.
There’s no one way to create a more inclusive environment for people living with cognitive change. Organizations that are fully integrated choose not to have a separate space—often called memory care—for people with dementia, but rather support people with dementia across the continuum. Other organizations have started by unlocking the doors to the areas where people with dementia live. And still others are beginning by making the boundaries between levels of care more permeable, to foster a stronger sense of belonging for people with dementia, regardless of where they live.
The benefits of fostering more inclusive environments are many, but we understand there are also a host of challenges. Our shared learning approach offers much needed space and time to explore the barriers and opportunities, amongst colleagues from across the country. Together, we’ll hear from both people living with dementia and subject-matter experts, engage in peer-to-peer learning, and create space for self-reflection.
If anyone is going to change the way we support people living with cognitive change, it’s us, the LeadingAge community. Come learn, grow, and challenge the status quo among fellow change-makers.
Registration is first-come, first-served, and space is limited to a small cohort of 35 LeadingAge provider member participants. Registration closes on April 22.
