The LeadingAge Knowledge Center is accepting registrations for the third cohort of LeadingAge members to participate in the Shared Learning Series: Committing to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), to begin in October.
In this five-part series, participants will hear from experienced DEI practitioners and subject-matter experts—and engage in peer-to-peer learning and self-reflection to enhance their understanding of the principles and practices associated with moving diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts forward.
Previous participants gained valuable understanding and insights from the Shared Learning Series:
- Melinda Crawford, director of human resources for Beechwood Continuing Care and part of the May-June 2023 cohort, says the series was invaluable when she was tasked with launching her organization’s DEI initiatives: “Not only did this series encourage my own self-awareness to biases and self-identity, but also promoted a safe and professional space to discuss vulnerable topics and learn from our peers. I left every session with a positive outlook and tools to share with management to get the conversation started in my organization and beyond.”
- Charlene Keith, vice president, human resources for Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community, part of the May-June 2023 cohort, liked the level of engagement: “The DEI Shared Learning Series team did an excellent job keeping everyone engaged and allowing space for group and individual discussions.”
- Robyn Abbey-Hardesty, center manager for Brio Living Services and a member of the second cohort, enjoyed the interaction and learning as a group with other participants: “[…] sharing with others was extremely beneficial, [and] the speakers were amazing, sharing their knowledge and insight. I will use this material and what I learned throughout my career and next steps with my organization’s DEI committee!”
- Travis Scholl, director of mission integration at Lutheran Senior Services and a first-cohort participant, appreciates the benefits for his organization: “Participating in the DEI Shared Learning Series was an important milestone on our […] journey toward belonging and empowerment. In addition to increasing my awareness and understanding of DEI resources, I value the community it created among peers, all of us working together to create cultures where every person is valued for their perspective and lived experience.”
