An often-adversarial November 20, 2025 House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing focused on vendor oversight by the Veteran Disability Examination Office.
Committee members questioned witnesses from Veterans’ Affairs and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and referenced GAO recommendations to improve business process, contract oversight, and program integrity.
Mary Glenn, Executive Director of the VA’s Medical Disability Examination Office testified that all recommendations from the GAO’s investigation have been implemented and that the VA is working on continuous improvement in payment discrepancies and veterans’ abilities to access timely disability examinations by the vendor.
Members of the committee dug into inconsistencies in answers from VA representatives and learned that the VA has changed policies that witnesses, leadership at the VA, agree are not in the best interest of veterans.
For LeadingAge adult day members and their participants who have recently seen challenges with disability exams and disability ratings, the attention paid to VA disability ratings and challenges accessing services through the VA is refreshing.
