On February 13, 2024, HUD published a “Request for Information (RFI) Regarding Iron, Steel, Construction Materials, and Manufactured Products Used in Housing Programs Pursuant to the Build America, Buy America (BABA) Act.”
The Build America, Buy America Act established a new domestic procurement requirement for construction and manufacturing products, and all iron and steel products, used in the construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure in America, including some HUD-assisted housing.
Through the RFI, HUD is seeking public feedback to enhance BABA implementation and understand market readiness to foster domestic supply chains in housing infrastructure development.
Stakeholders are encouraged to respond to the RFI on or before April 15, 2024; HUD is also hosting a webinar on February 22, 2024 from 1:00-1:30pm ET to provide an overview of the Notice.
LeadingAge has urged HUD to institute a broad waiver for affordable housing from the BABA requirements and will continue to do so. Please contact Juliana Bilowich, LeadingAge’s Director of Housing Operations and Policy, to weigh in.
