A group of national organizations teamed up on the development of updated guidelines for infection control in nursing homes published on October 28, 2025.

Endorsed by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medical Association (PALTmed), and American Geriatrics Society (AGS), the guidelines include recommendations addressing 42 topics and can serve as a resource for nursing homes in the development, implementation, and improvement of their infection prevention and control programs.
