New ‘Independence at Home’ Evaluation

Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) released a report on the Independence at Home (IAH) Demonstration’s seventh year—which was 2020, the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report found that home-based primary care from IAH practices was more effective during the first year of the pandemic than previous years. IAH reduced spending by a substantial amount around $459 per beneficiary per month. Lower spending on hospital admissions drove this decrease in spending.
