About the Presenters

Emi Kiyota, Ph.D. is an Environmental Gerontologist and organizational culture change specialist, currently serves as a consultant to implement person-centered care practice in long term care facilities. Emi founded Ibasho, embodying the Japanese concept of “a place where one feels at home being oneself” with a group of like-minded colleagues. Emi received her Ph.D. in Architecture (Environment and Behavior Studies) from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as her Master of Architecture and Master of Science in Horticulture Therapy from Kansas State University.

Anna Cebrián

As Marketing director of inforesidencias.com, Anna Cebrián is responsible for providing unbiased information and guidance to the users it serves, families searching for caregiving services for an elder. This can be assisted living, nursing homes, hourly adult care or other types of care. Anna has a master’s degree in Business by the University of Nancy (France), a PDD by IESE Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration by the University of Barcelona. She also holds the Eden Alternative Certification and a Postgraduate in Nursing homes management.

Femada Shamam

Femada serves as Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for the planning and implementation of services to the elderly. Her role at the organization is also to provide representation at local and provincial forums with a view to lobbying and advocating for rights of the elderly. Her social work and Bachelor of Commerce Training sets the foundation to create a balance between understanding the need and implementing sustainable models of care and support. she has been involved in training and development of internal staff as well as other stakeholders in this field in the Durban area. She has also presented papers locally as well as at international conferences.
