Direct Supply Webinar: How Activity-Dependent Neural Plasticity Principles Drive Therapeutic Change and Lead to Improved Functional Outcomes in Central Nervous System Disorders
  • Jan 01, 1970
  • 1:00 pm EST

In recent decades, neural plasticity has been widely accepted as a common occurrence among researchers and clinicians alike. Incorporating activity-dependent neural plasticity principles in therapy drives the Central Nervous System (CNS) to change and adapt following injury, leading to improved functional outcomes. This course will discuss the well-researched activity-dependent principles driving neural plasticity that guide therapists in the treatment of their patients with CNS impairments. This course will briefly touch upon the current state of clinical therapy practice as it relates to those principles. Lastly, this course will review technology- and non-technology-based solutions that incorporate those principles and the importance of outcome-based test measures that coincide with treatment

Read below for the primary learning objectives:

  • Define three activity-dependent principles that drive neural plasticity in Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders.
  • Find research that supports each of the activity-dependent principles discussed in this course that drive neural plasticity.
  • Describe common therapy practices in the clinic that may not induce CNS changes required to achieve optimal patient function.
  • Identify technology- and non-technology-based solutions used in clinics that incorporate these principles.
  • Evaluate the importance of outcome-based test measures.
