About Next Level Leadership
This virtual series guides rising stars and high potential professionals through the core practices of leading from within—a deep dive into learning more about who they are as leaders, how to leverage their strengths, and ways to fine-tune their leadership skills.
As part of a small and highly engaged cohort, participants will hear from experienced leadership subject-matter experts and engage in peer-to-peer learning to:

Gain an Understanding
of the key leadership principles and practices of effective leaders.

Build the Leadership Muscles
needed to step into future leadership roles.

Develop a More Complete Understanding
of self and one’s unique leadership style and approach.

Incorporate Prepared-to-Lead Competencies
into their leadership toolbox, including curiosity, resilience, confidence, and reflection.
The series will be held virtually over two-months (April– May 2024) via Zoom and consist of six 3 hour sessions, plus an orientation.
- To enable participants to share and learn from each other’s experiences, sessions will be highly interactive and include opportunities for open dialogue and small group discussions.
- To encourage personal exploration and continued learning, suggested readings and other resources will be shared between sessions.
- To foster engagement and community-building, participants will be expected to be on camera and be present for the full duration of all sessions.
The program is open to aspiring and emerging leaders and mid-level professionals affiliated with LeadingAge provider members—irrespective of their professional experience or job title. We encourage participants from across the aging services continuum, including at-home and community-based organizations.
- Space is limited to a small cohort of 35 participants.
- A non-refundable fee of $1,350 per person is required to participate.
- Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis; registration closes on April 5, 2024.
LeadingAge seeks to eliminate barriers to participation in education programs by providing need-based discounts (up to 50%) to provider members with a demonstrated financial need or hardship situation and a commitment to ongoing professional (and personal) development. Julie Thorson dives into strategies to approach challenging conversations-which can be particularly tricky in an aging services setting with multiple layers of stakeholders- in a manner that instills confidence, maintains relationships, reduces worry, and helps lead productive outcomes.

Dr. Battisti is a noted educator, speaker, psychotherapist, consultant, and author who offers individuals and organizations pathways to explore their potential and move toward desired transformation.
Judy Brown
Dr. Brown is a leadership educator, author, poet, speaker and coach. She has developed countless leadership initiatives for organizations and serves as facilitator for the LeadingAge Leadership Academy.
Marsha Wesley Coleman
Ms. Coleman is an organizational development practitioner and executive coach. In her role with FSA, she designs educational programs for employees of aging services organizations and works with leadership teams to diagnose issues and develop strategies to improve organizational performance at individual, group, and system levels.
Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque
Dr. Jacque is Board Chair of National Senior Campuses and Assistant to the Pastor for Small Groups at the Historic Alfred Street Baptist Church. Her work focuses on creating change while sustaining hope and faith.
Joanne Smikle
Dr. Smikle is a consultant, author, speaker, and respected authority on leadership and organization development. She delivers substantive learning as well as virtual and on-site services to organizations across the country.
Kevin Davis
Mr. Davis is a passionate and engaging facilitator with a diverse background in consulting, nonprofit leadership, and global training. He guides individuals and teams to rediscover their core values, navigate challenges, and unlock their full potential.
Wendy Green, M.A.
Vice President, Leadership Engagement and Development, LeadingAge, Washington, DC
As vice president of leadership engagement and development, Wendy leads a variety of leadership initiatives and learning opportunities for executive-level peer groups, including the design, implementation, and facilitation of the Leadership Academy. Before LeadingAge, Wendy worked in DC-based associations and think tanks to strengthen capacities of current and emerging leaders. She uses her expertise to create engaging education opportunities for leaders at every level.
BreAna Moss, M.A.
Manager, Education & Leadership Programs, LeadingAge, Washington, DC
BreAna draws on her Master’s in Management of Aging Services to contribute to all aspects of the content development of conference-based programming and online learning opportunities. In her role, she is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization’s leadership programs and related initiatives, including the coordination of all programmatic aspects of LeadingAge’s flagship leadership program, the Leadership Academy.
Jaia Davis

As the Education Programs and Services Coordinator, Jaia assists with the logistical and operational aspects of LeadingAge’s Leadership Academy program, as well as other leadership programming and engagement opportunities for c-suite/executive-level peer groups; including the day-to-day coordination of program data and related support systems/infrastructure. Jaia also supports various educational offerings including conference education, online learning, and shared learning events.
